Nanning Dragon Boat racing in Duanwu Festival

Duanwu Festival (绔崍鑺), also known as Dragon Boat Festival, is one of the most important Festival in Chinese culture. It is May 5th in Chinese lunar month, and it is in May 16, 2010.
As the most popular large activity in this festival, dragon boat racing is taking place in the many rivers. One of them is in Yangmei(鏉ㄧ編), an old town for traveling near Nanning city.

As the local custom, the old people will host a ceremony before the dragon boat racing, more or less like a worship ceremony, may has some differences between different places. In some village, all the team players will touch the boat that they are going to race, wish for a good luck. Some other customs like draw the eyeballs of the dragon boat, etc
There are about 15 dragon boat team take part in the race. They will race about 1500m to see who can be the fastest. At the end of the race, the first prize is a roast pig’s head, it is an old custom, and it is great honor to win that price.
